Crossing North: Listed vs. Private: How communications needs shape your career path

26.5.2026 09.00

Online

What does a communications function truly need to deliver in a publicly listed company versus a privately held one, like an early-stage startup or scaleup? And how should that shape the career decisions you make as a comms professional?

In this Crossing North session, two experienced communications leaders share how their day-to-day work, priorities, and stakeholder landscapes and needs differ depending on whether the company answers to public markets or private owners. The conversations will explore the practical realities of what gets prioritised, what skills matter most, and where the pressure points are in each environment.

Whether you are considering your next career move or simply want to broaden your understanding of the Finnish communications landscape, this session will give you concrete insight into how organisational context shapes the comms role from the inside out.

What you'll learn

Understand the core communications obligations of a publicly listed company in Finland from regulatory disclosure and financial reporting cycles to market-sensitive messaging. Hear how these compare to the communications priorities of a private company, like startups and scaleups, where the stakeholder map, decision-making speed, and strategic focus can look very different.

Learn what skills and mindsets transfer between the two environments and where the gaps tend to appear. Walk away with a clearer picture of how these differences can inform your own professional development and career choices.

Who should attend?

Everyone is welcome! However, these sessions were designed for international communications professionals working in or considering a career in the Finnish market. Whether you come from an agency, in-house, or freelance background, if you want to understand how the type of organisation you work for shapes the comms function, this session is for you.
